Abstract

In order to study on effect of seed dressing on germination, vigour and seedling emergence at glass house of four cotton commercial cultivars, Varamin, Khordad, Kashmar and Khorshid, a research conducted at Birjand University Agriculture Faculty and Seed ant Plant Certification and Registration Institute(SPCR) at Karaj. At first seeds infection rate to pathogens determined and then seeds dressed by Hypochlorite Sodium solution and Vitawax Thiram fungicide and standard germination test conducted as two factor factorial experiment by 12 treatments (4 cotton cultivars × seed dressing by disinfectants and without dressing seeds as control) by completely randomized design and glass house experiment by complete randomizes blocks design with 9 replications. Some seed germination, vigour and seedling emergence in glass house traits were determined. Results revealed, studied seed germination and vigour and seedling emergence traits to dressing were different. Varamin and Kashmar cultivars seeds which dressed by Vitawax Thiram fungicide had more normal seedling percent and stronger seedling vigour and less infection to pathogenic fungi and infected seedling. Nevertheless, Khordad cultivar seeds had less mean germination time and seedling mean emergence time at glass house and more seedling emergence percent. Khordad cultivar seeds which dressed by Vitawax Thiram fungicide had the most seedling emergence index at glass house. Varamin and Kashmar cultivars seeds which dressed by Vitawax Thiram fungicide also had more seedling weight vigour index in glass hose. Therefore, Varamin and Kashmar cultivars were cultivars had more seed germination and stronger vigour and seed dressing by Vitawax Thiram fungicide preferable.
