In this study, two modes of fuzzy and delinted cottonseed (Latif cultivar) were quasi-statically loaded in the length, width, and thickness orientations by Santam-STM5. Some mechanical properties were measured including seed rupture force, rupture energy, strain, and toughness, and a factorial test with a completely randomized design was used to study the effect of three levels of velocities of loading (3, 5, and 7 mm.min-1) on cottonseeds. Results showed that the maximum and minimum force to rupture in delinted cottonseed at loading speed 3 and 7 mm/min were 87.86 and 51.5 N respectively. Also, the highest and lowest energy required to rupture in fuzzy cottonseed at the longitudinal direction and thickness were 58.76 and 29.16 mJ respectively. The highest energy required to rupture in the delinted cottonseed in loading speed of 3 mm/min was 60 mJ and the lowest energy required to rupture in fuzzy cottonseed in the speed of 7 mm/min was 32.47 mJ. The maximum and minimum of toughness were obtained in the width direction in delinted cottonseed (0.55 MJ/mm3) and thickness direction in fuzzy cottonseed (0.24 mJ/mm3) respectively. The highest toughness in delinted cottonseed in loading speed of 3 mm/min was 0.53 mJ/mm3 and the lowest toughness in fuzzy cottonseed in loading speed of 7 mm/min was 0.3 mJ/mm3. The most cottonseed strain in fuzzy cottonseed in width direction was 0.227 and the lowest strain in the delinted cottonseed in the length direction was 0.104. Also, the highest strain in loading speed of 5 mm/min was 0.217.
